I always listen to music when developing photographs but I don’t necessarily choose the songs to fit the mood of the images. So it was by coincidence that Spotify played this Balmorhea track while I was working on this. The music made it much easier for me to bring out the human element in the photograph—the experience of being there—which the raw file lacked.

Though it doesn’t look like it, this one was hard to get. I was hanging over a barbed wire fence trying to catch the last light of the day at this empty warehouse in South Melbourne. I levelled my camera against the wire. It was the second-last shot of the day.
